  Good service & performance-poor features

I just got the host a few days back. My gripes are pretty simple. It doesn't have JSP -- only PHP & ASP to go along with Servlets. Also, to get the JDBC MySQL driver installed you need to do a complicated procedure of faxing your ID and getting a special SSH account. Also, you have compile the .java files yourself on the desktop and upload it as .class, which can drag on development time.
On the other hand, they are prompt with replies and most of their user interface administration system is top notch. They seemed pretty fast as far as the server goes too.
In sum, I'm switching because of lack of features as far as what I need at the JDBC hassle, but if you are just playing around with vanilla Servlets or if you want a webhost that can do PHP or ASP this sounds OK.

Their "voicemail" doesn't pick up. Their ticket support doesn't respond.
I cancelled my service within a day due to technical issues, so they refunded, THEN recharged me again!
It's a bitch getting a hold of anyone.

  NO JSP SUPPORT

Beware they are very misleading, they do not support JSP!! Cancelling membership ASAP. Technical Support is also shaky. Trying to get a real person is virtually impossible.

  I wouldn't use them again...

I posted a webapp in Tomcat that started throwing Tomcat errors that were clearly an issue with the host configuration. I first got them on their "live chat" interface and the guy had no idea what I was talking about so he told me to open a trouble ticket - which I had already done, of course. The next day soemone responds to scold me for opening up two tickets and to tell me they'd get back to me when they knew what was wrong. A few days later they said they were escalating the problem to the technicial group. A few days later they had escalated the problem to the NOC. Today, I have heard no word, but my app has been dead for six days and I'm desparately searching for a new host.

Great looking main page can be misleading

The Host Group has a great looking front page but that's about it. They do provide support for JSPs (despite what another reviewer wrote)Servlets, and a bunch of other seemingly nice features. I chose the host because it offered group mailing lists. My first bad experience with them was when I asked for them to JSP enable my sight which took about 2 days. To do so they moved my domain over to another server and neglected to copy my existing html pages so my site was effectively down. The next problem I ran into is that the site goes down for about 10 minutes when I upload a .war file. And unfortunately the mailing lists were so buggy and primitive that I can't use them. Now I'm looking for another host. I don't recommend the site. Thank god they don't have contracts.

I put up with THG for nearly two year, but when they couldn't figure out how to probably support JSP and then dropped it altogther, well, I dropped them.
You get what you pay for.

I recommend this provider to anyone who is just starting out. They're very helpful to newbies and while don't have the absolute best service I've come across, they go the extra mile with support.
