Very reasonable price, lots of features

This hosting is best for the price by far. It is definitely worth forking out the cash for a power user account with DSP as you get your own httpd and servlet engine (JRun) plus a login account accessible via telnet. It is a bit of a steep learning curve on the java side but the technical support via email is swift. My recommendation if you are new to server-side java is to do your servlet and JSP learing using the kit from Sun then get an account with these people.

Excellent Site

I would still be with them except they do not support server side includes for Java. They are also unable to provide a secure certificate for Java Servlets. They really do not learn from problems their customers have such as how to connect to a MYSQL database using Java. They need to improve on their FAQ. It's still a good site

I recommend these guys to everyone!

I have set up several people with this ISP. They are a class act. If you ever need help, they are quick to respond and do it right the first time. Never had a complaint yet! 5 star rating!!

Novice friendly, expert not

If you’re a novice developer, great, it has a sandbox that is an all-encompassing environment. More advanced users will find it frustrating. I just need a site to post JSP and Servlets. I do all my work on my home box. At the job of JSP and Servlets is very bad also. I had trouble getting the system setup, had multiple emails back and forth with Tech support until they finally admitted it was their problem and got it resolved. UserActive uses JRun as their servlet container. They don’t provide any docs or ‘how to’ on JRun configuration. Even though the say it’s totally configurable, all JSP’s have to go into the JSP directory off root, and all Servlets have to go into the Servlet directory off root. Very restrictive. Even thought tech support was responsive to emails, personally I hated this site. If you need to learn JSP/Serlvets, rather then use this site, download Tomcat and the JSP/Serlvets specs from Sun.

Best value and good reliability, but need to upgrade Java

Definitely the best value I have found so far. We've been with them for 2 years and even today I will be hard pressed to find a site for this price that will let you have your private JVM and ability to configure everything. Support was very good except that they do not know a whole lot about Java. The 2 fairly big problems is that you get a "virtual site" running on a different port and sometimes users can't access it. Java tools (JVM version, JRun servlet container) are also pretty old. But overall they are great.

Good, but old technology

I liked Useractive when I used their services. Up time was pretty good and they responded fairly quickly to any issues I had. I left there because there J2EE technology could no longer support my applications. They're using old JRun servers. Also, although they were as responsive as they could be with email support, I needed a company that could provide closer to 24hr telephone support. I also liked the fact that they give you complete control over your Apache server and logs.

Very happy with these guys

I've been using them for over 2.5 yrs now and am very happy. While it would be nice if they upgraded JRUN to a newer version, I'm pleased with the service.

They don't offer 24x7 monitoring, so you have to monitor it yourself, but being able to access the server and restart JRUN is great.
